It is being told in the report that a stampede broke out on railway station platform no. 14 and 15 where the crowd of passengers was waiting to board the train for Maha Kumbh.
Due to cancellation of two trains, there was chaos and stampede. Congress has called it the failure of railways.
At least 18 people were killed and more than a dozen injured in a stampede at the New Delhi railway station late Saturday night (February 15, 2025), officials said.
Delhi Chief Minister Artishi said that the dead bodies of 15 people have been brought to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital. Out of which 14 are women, total 5 are minors, two of whom are under 10 years of age.
Looking at the terrifying scene, the IAF Sergeant said that to stop the crowd, many announcements were made and a lot of efforts were made to make people understand, but people were not listening.
According to CMI, 1500 general tickets were sold every hour which led to a stampede and the crowd became uncontrollable. There was a stampede at platform no. 14 and near escalator near platform no. 16,” the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Railway) said.
The Congress on Sunday (February 15, 2025) accused the government of trying to hide the truth about the deaths in the stampede at the New Delhi railway station and said it had once again highlighted the “failure” of the railways and the “indifference” of the government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said to X twitter and said ,”Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for a speedy recovery for the injured. Authorities are assisting all those affected by the stampede.”
